Health Aside from the versatility our dogs have to offer, we are also proud of the health quality of our dogs. To ensure we produce only the healthiest animals, we do health testing prior to each breeding. Our dog's hips are certified by the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA) and are certified as Good or Excellent. They are also cleared by the Canine Eye Registry Foundation (CERF) and our German Shorthaired Pointers are tested by Optigen and are found to be CD Normal. At around 3 days of age, puppies take their first trip to the veterinarian. They get their tails docked, their dew claws removed, and also receive a full vet check. Puppies are checked for worms at 6 weeks of age and also receive their first vaccinations at this time. Prior to pups leaving for their new homes, most pups will receive their second full health screening by a veterinarian. At the time of purchase, each new owner is given proof of current vaccinations and the health record of their new puppy. Our pups are sold with a 3 day health guarantee, during which time we ask that the new owner have their pup examined by their own veterinarian and set up a schedule for future visits. The puppy can be returned for a full refund if it develops an illness within these 3 days. Our contract also guarantees that if our pups develop a debilitating hereditary disease or are diagnosed by OFA to have hip dysplaysia within 30 months from the date of birth, the puppy buyer may return the dog to us and will receive a replacement puppy of like quality at a time mutually agreeable to both the buyer and the seller, or they may keep the puppy, which will be spayed or neutered, and we will refund half the purchase price upon receipt of spay or neuter. Training All our puppies are raised in our home. They are handled by us daily and are socialized to adults, children and other animals.. Our puppies are raised using the Early Neurological Stimulation from 3-16 days of age. At 2-3 weeks of age perspective owners are welcome to come and visit the new arrivals. At 5 weeks of age, the real training begins. Puppies are bathed, groomed with a clipper blade (Brittanys only), their toenails are trimmed, they continue learning to stack and be examined on a table, and are continuing to be exposed to a variety of household noises. They will also start spending personal time with us away from the litter so the pup learns that he is an individual and develops confidence in himself. We go to all of this effort so pups are well on their way to becoming wonderful pets when they arrive at your home. At 6 weeks of age, pups are started on birds and will be fired over with a blank gun from a distance. We will also take them for walks in the field (weather permitting) where they will learn to watch where we are going and they will soon learn to search for game. Back at home, we set out plenty of toys, tunnels and other fun things for our youngsters to explore. At 7-8 weeks of age, pups are put into their own crates at night. This will get them well on their way to crate training and housebreaking. Availability We average one litter a year. We usually keep one puppy out of each litter and the remainder are available to show, hunting, performance, and/or companion homes. Puppies are placed with their families at 8-10 weeks of age. The order in which pups are picked are determined by a few factors but mostly on how each puppy will fit their new owner's needs. Show , hunting and/or performance competitors are picked first in the order in which deposits were received. Pet homes are placed as to how the puppy fits into each home. If you feel you are not within driving distance of our house, we can ship your puppy to you. Conditions All our puppies are sold to individuals who will make them part of their families. We will not sell a pup to anyone who plans to confine it exclusively to a kennel run or backyard. Since this breed is active and needs a job to do all year - not just during hunting season, we especially enjoy selling our pups to people who are interested in show or performance events. We also require that the puppy buyer provides the puppy with companionship, proper nutrition, humane treatment, regular veterinary care, heartworm preventative, training, adequate exercise and access to a fenced yard. The buyer must agree to maintain the good health and well being of the puppy for the length of their ownership. We also ask that if you become unable to take care of your dog, you will give us first option for ownership. We will take back any or our puppies regardless of the reason. We request that you contact us before transferring ownership of any of our puppies. We also ask that you maintain contact with us to let us know how the puppy is doing. We love to hear stories a see pictures of our puppies! To reserve a puppy we have the perspective buyer fill out a puppy questionnaire. If a Diamond Creek dog is found suitable for you, a $200 deposit will hold a puppy. The deposit is non refundable unless the sex of the puppy is not produced. We will provide the puppy buyer with certificate of pedigree and the American Kennel Club Registration papers upon completion of the transaction. This includes return or payment for the airline kennel, payment of shipping fees, clearing of any checks, etc. All of our puppies sold as "hunting/companion/pets" and are considered unsuitable for breeding are sold on AKC Limited Registration. Limited Registration dogs are ineligible to compete in AKC conformation events, however, they may participate in all performance events including hunt tests, field trials, obedience, agility, etc. This puppy's get cannot be registered by the AKC and we strongly recommend that you have all animals sold on a Limited Registration spayed or neutered. If a puppy is of breeding quality, it will be sold on co-ownership with a full registration and a signed contract (see left). We may sign off on the puppy after certain conditions are met. If the owner wishes to breed their puppy, the buyer must inform us of their intention of breeding the puppy, and provide the information on the breeding partner the puppy will be bred to. If the buyer elects to breed the puppy, it must be a minimum of 2 years of age and have its hips OFA certified prior to breeding. |
